Are any of your front teeth stained, chipped, or uneven? Do you have a habit of hiding your mouth behind your hand when you smile or laugh? If you feel self-conscious about the way your teeth look, then porcelain veneers could be the perfect way to restore your confidence.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
A dental veneer is a slim shell of porcelain that fits neatly over the front of your tooth. This cosmetic restoration replaces a slight layer of enamel on your tooth so it lies flush for a seamless and natural-looking finish. Despite their thin profile and delicate appearance, porcelain veneers are strong and durable.
Veneers create a perfect smile by covering up imperfections such as tooth gaps, chipped or rough enamel, and stubborn dental stains.
The Dental Veneer Process
Getting veneers starts with a smile design consultation. You’ll meet with Dr. Marion to discuss the changes you’d like to make to your teeth. He’ll show you some photos that can help you identify the look you want to achieve with veneers. Dr. Marion can even sculpt some wax against your teeth to give you an idea of the results you can expect from veneers.
When Dr. Marion prepares your teeth for veneers, he will carefully trim away some enamel from the front and edges of your teeth. He only removes about half a millimeter which is the thickness of a porcelain veneer. Next, Dr. Marion takes a digital scan of your prepared teeth and references it to design each individual veneer.
You’ll start off with a set of acrylic provisional veneers. Dr. Marion works closely with the dental laboratory to ensure that each veneer is the perfect hue and shape for your smile. You will wear these acrylic veneers for a week or two to try them out and then let Dr. Marion know what you think. If you don’t like the feel, size, color, or texture, he can make the needed adjustments. Once you’re happy with your veneers, Dr. Marion will use those provisionals as a model for crafting your permanent porcelain veneers.
After your permanent dental veneers are ready, you’ll come back to our office to try them on. If you don’t love the way they look, Dr. Marion will send them back to the ceramist for further adjustments before cementing them in place. This is his beautiful smile guarantee—you have to love your new smile before it is bonded on.
Dr. Marion takes immense pride in crafting brand-new smiles with porcelain veneers. Veneers can’t fix every dental problem, however. Schedule a complimentary consultation to ask Dr. Marion if you should begin the veneer planning process. If your teeth don’t qualify for veneers, Dr. Marion will honestly tell you so and recommend a more ideal solution.
